Dear Vanguard Academy Families, We want to make our families aware of a recent social media trend commonly referred to as the “Cat in the Hat” hoax, involving concerning posts and false threats targeting schools and school communities. Similar posts have been circulating on social media, particularly TikTok, and we understand that seeing or receiving this type of content can understandably cause concern. This social media trend has come to the attention of law enforcement, with reports being investigated in communities across Texas, including the Laredo area and here in the Rio Grande Valley. State and local law enforcement agencies are aware of the trend and have been working to identify and investigate the sources of these posts. Vanguard Academy’s Safety & Security Department has also been aware of and monitoring the situation and has kept district and campus leadership informed as information has developed. Some of the material associated with this trend may include AI-generated or manipulated images, which can make it appear that an individual depicted is physically inside a particular school, hallway, or community when that may not be the case. We encourage our families and students to be mindful that images and information shared through social media may be altered, misleading, or false. At this time, we have no information indicating a credible threat specifically directed at Vanguard Academy or any of our campuses. However, every report involving the safety of our students and staff is taken seriously and will be evaluated appropriately in coordination with law enforcement when necessary. Vanguard Academy remains committed to providing a safe and secure learning environment for all students and staff. Our campuses will continue normal operations, with established safety and security measures in place each day. Our administration and Safety & Security teams remain vigilant, and students should feel safe coming to school and continuing with their normal school day. We are grateful to the students, parents, staff, and community members who bring concerning information to our attention. We ask our families and students not to repost or further circulate these images, videos, or messages, as doing so can unnecessarily increase fear and contribute to the spread of misinformation. Instead, if you receive information that specifically references Vanguard Academy, one of our campuses, a Vanguard Academy student or employee, or our school community, please preserve the information and immediately report it to campus administration or the appropriate authorities so it can be reviewed and investigated. We also encourage parents and guardians to speak with their children about responsible social media use and the seriousness of creating, sharing, or participating in threatening content, even when intended as a joke or hoax. Vanguard Academy will continue monitoring the situation and communicating with our law enforcement partners. Should any credible information develop that directly affects our schools or school community, families will be notified promptly through official Vanguard Academy communication channels. Thank you for your continued trust, cooperation, and partnership as we work together to keep our Vanguard Academy community safe and informed. Vanguard Academy
